ceremonial Mentor

From a young age I had always been aware of a feeling-tone in me that was like a black void of deep longing. It told me that the purpose of life was to follow that longing and remember God through it.

For a while I thought that the path of getting to know God was about “finding intrinsic happiness”, and I both tried on for myself and served others from the lens of traditional psychology. I isolated difficult emotions, saw them as a problem to fix, and thought in terms of coping skills - until this perspective turned into more of a limitation than a way of following nature.

I continued into graduate academia, but I like to call it “Hogwarts School” because all spiritual inquiries and practices were welcomed to be explored. Through a balance of research, sacred texts, ceremonial spaces, and a rites of passage initiation I came into greater intimacy with my own medicine. Our teachers were on a mystical path themselves, guiding us into a new way of looking at life that was closer to the earth’s cyclical nature: the fundamental law that all is life, death, and rebirth.

Part of why I decided to pursue an unconventional path of studies, was because of the way that the path had already been revealing itself to me. The way my psychic senses had started to develop beforehand, were very much of the upper world, where meditation, lucid dreaming, feeling my star lineage, and heightened sensitivity was a large part of my experience. Then, I entered the world of soul-making, where my sights were set on landing on earth instead of trying to escape somewhere “up” there.

The earth became my mirror, a Great Mother, and my teacher. I started to feel down the roots of my earth ancestry, the traditions that I came from, the indigenity within myself and everyone else, and committed to the life practice of acknowledging the shadow within myself and all things. I befriended my body, its physicality, and found power in opening the eyes of my feet. I learned that intelligence lives in more places than the linear mind, that it can come from our gut or womb.

There is a sweet spot, I have found, between the upper world and the underworld. It is the sweet spot of saying yes to the contract that is this incarnation. It is the yes to being a courageous edgewalker and bridgemaker of a new world, one that comes from a deep memory.

I believe in the universality of all of us, as well as the intricate uniqueness of each of us. I am here to witness you in your remembering of that, and to be a fire-keeper for when it gets difficult to see the way through (hint: because you are the one yet to create it).

LINEAGES, TEACHERS, AND JOURNEYS

First, I want to give gratitude to my ancestral inheritance and spiritual roots that continue to weave through me in many ways. From my matrilineal side, I am Mestizo Panamanian and from my patrilineal side, I am French-American. Although I don’t traditionally practice Catholicism the way I was raised, I have cultivated my own connection to The Divine Father that is an important piece of my practice.
